Magician's Oath

Christopher Jackson
Hi, I'm Christopher Jackson. I've come here to show you a few magic tricks that I've invented and write a blog or two helping you guys become better magicians. My favorite ttype of magic is Coin and Gimmick realated. I invent my own gimmicks to make advanced tricks usable for everyone and I enjoy helping other magicians. I am a firm believer in the Magician's Oath. Now...lets start the show.
I got to say that I'm getting tired of people who learn one or two tricks going out into the world and ruining the fun for the real magicians. What I'm talking about are people who have not taken the magicians oath.
There are many different versions of the oath, but most have the same componets in them. The magician much swear to do the following: To keep the secrets of the trade within the trade. To not copy or steal another magicians trick without permission. To treat magic as an art. To only show a trick to someone after practicing it enough that the secret will not be givin away. To never harm an animal in the name of a trick (recently added to universal oath).
IS THAT SO HARD?!
I got to say, at the very least...Practice the trick so you don't mess up and ruin it. Okay?

How many hours does a musician practice before playing even a single performance? How long does an actor prepare before standing on the stage? Yet a magician will run out on the street at the first chance he gets!
YouTube is magician hell.

I know, i hate when people will put magic explanations on youtube, if you want to tell other magicians about tricks then they should be on this site.

Does it really matter?? The basic information is easy to get if you want to. But only few study it enough to really perform it properly. The quality on youtube is terrible. If you are a good magician en you connect with your audience, you show them some really exciting things then there is some magic. The biggest secret of magic is not the technical stuff at least for the close up artist. You often hear about the big guys like fred kaps or tony slydini, that they could fool magician's with the most basic simple tricks.

I agree with you, that a magician needs to stick to the magician's oath. It's there for a purpose. Like "J" said, how much will a musician practice before a performance? Until he gets it down and it can be performed to its highest potential. I honestly hate youtube users who "teach" "magic" on the site mainly because someone watches a video, learns how something is done, do it to only a few people and call himself/herself a magician.
