ive always loved magic with a passion ever since i saw one of those cheezy magicians performing in a mall he did multiplying sponge balls and i was shocked(at the time) and recently got back into it so here i am. :D
Alright, so this is a topic that has been bothering me for a while now. Has anyone else noticed how everything about magic is becomeing commercialized, and while its not a terrible thing to have happen. I see it happen all the time, a magician picks up a book/watches a dvd learns a trick and practises it, then when they perform it there is no personal parts added to the patter or trick. The trick is performed by the script that was given and with nothing of the magicians self in the trick, it lessens the effect of magic because they watch these ads and demo videos of the commercialized tricks and think that because the patter works for the creator that it works for them. Alot of people need to learn how to add a personal touch to all of their tricks or magic becomes degraded a little bit more.

I absolutely agree.
Nowadays everything is "parrotmagic". Search youtube for any effect you know, and you'll hear the same lines and see the same handelings a dozen times.
People forget that magic is a CREATIVE art and just like any art, it should be personal. You have to put something of you in any trick you learn, buy or discover.
Change the patter, try different handelings, throw in some extra's.
This will not only assure you that people haven't seen YOUR trick, but it wil help you in unfolding you creative innerness and wil help you later on in the process of creating you own baffling effects.
Magic isn't about learning scripts and patters by heart, it's putting your heart into what you do.
Remember that people don't just want to see tricks, they want to see someone PERFORM a trick!
Anyone can pick up a pack of cards and do some trick, put as a magician I feel I want to ENTERTAIN! Even if you know only one trick, if you wrap it up nicely, with stories or jokes or mystery, people will remember you! Not just the trick! The will remember you, the magician who stunned them with only one trick!
And adding your own touches to tricks, I think, helps you perform as well, you're more at ease, 'cause you're not afraid to forget some lines of the script. What you came up with is way easier to remember!
Put that's only my opinion! Feel free to debate!
