I love magic. The secret lies in the use of a Third tumbler placed in readiness on the servante, immediately behind the one on the table, into which the coins are actually dropped. When about to commence the trick, the performer makes the pass known as the "Tourniquet" (from the right hand), (see "[[a]]../stanyon1/001.htm[[aa]]Conjuring For Amateurs[[/a]]"), and when seeming to drop the coins from the left hand into tumbler on table, he really drops them from the right hand into the one on the servante. This Sleight forms a complete illusion. Immediately after the coins strike the hidden tumbler, the performer picks up the one from the table, grasping it, for obvious reasons, near the base, and covers it with a handkerchief. When covering the second tumbler (the one supposed to be empty) the performer, under cover of the handkerchief, adroitly changes it for that on the servante, and which, it will be understood, contains the coins.
The conclusion of the trick now depends entirely on the dramatic element, and will be better, or worse, according to the ability of the artiste in this direction.
