A classic, easy, and very effective trick.

A spectator picks a book, selects a word from that book, and YOU read their mind, telling them what word they selected!

Book Test

Effect:
You ask for two volunteers to help. The first one, ask him/her to select a book from three; the second one, ask him/her to cut a deck of card at anywhere he/she want, ask him/her to add the value of the top two card together, let's say the answer is 15. Ask the first volunteer to open the book he/she choose to page 15 and concentrate at the first word. You can read his/her mind and tell him/her what the word is.

Method:
You force the volunteers to choose the book, cards and the word.

Props:
1. Three books
2. A deck of card

Set Up:
1. First remove two aces(AC & AD),then set the remaining fifty cards in the following order:

7C 8D 6D 9S 5C 10H 4D JS 3C QS 2D KS AH KH 2H QC 3D JH 4S 10C 5D 9C 6S 8S 7S 8C 6H 9H 5H 10D 4C JD 3S QH 2S KD AS KC 2C QD 3H JC 4H 10S
5S 9D 6C 8H 7H 7D

At this point, wherever the volunteer cut to, the value of the top two cards MUST be 14 or 15.

2. Now, pick a book, remember the first word of page 14 and 15.

Steps:
1. Ask for two volunteers for help.

2. Hand the first one three books, use "magician's choice" to force him/her to pick the book that you have remember the words.

3. Ask the second volunteer to cut the deck at anywhere he/she want, then ask him/her to add the value of the top two cards together. It must be 14 or 15.

4. Ask the first volunteer to open the book at that selected page(14 or 15) and concentrate on the first word on that page.

5. You can correctly name the word!
